Take a look at this lovely review.  There is one small cavil, I see, whether a character like Daniel Hamid could have existed and practised as he did. Well, such a man did exist, Sake Dean Mahomed, whose establishment in Brighton pre-dated the events in my book, and was my inspiration for Dr Hamid. Mahomed was quite the innovator, and even brought the first Indian restaurant to England.
